Session 4: Let's start designing our accessory

During session number 4 the students have to design the accesory for their carnival costume, a guitar. 

Description of the activities:

Objectives of the session:

  • To make a list of the needed materials to build the accessory.

  • To number and match the steps to build the guitar.

​

  • Draw and colour their design. 

Activity 1:  Before coming into the classroom the teacher will have selected a little accessory for the costume. The accessory will be chosen from the winner proposal. The materials for the accessory will be brought by the teachers in advanced.

This first part of the session will consist on the teacher explaining about the materials needed to develop the accessory while showing them examples in real life.

Also, the teacher will show students a model of the accessory finished to show how it  needs to be done.

              Class organization: Whole class

              Timing:   5 minutes

Activity 2: After showing the model the activities on the worksheet will start. The first one will be related to the first part of it, the materials. his part of the activity will be developed as a class, talking about the materials one by one relating them to the model shown by the teacher. As they comment the materials in the class the students will have to write them on their worksheets.

              Timing:  10 minutes

Activity 3:  When having the materials' part finished, the students and the teacher will continue with the description of the steps. All together they will read the explanation of each step and they will put them in order and match them with the pictures.

Activity 3.1:  After finishing with the materials and the steps, the students will have time to draw and colour their guitar's design.

              Timing:   35minutes

Materials:

  • Worksheet.

  • A model of the guitar.

  • Craft materials: carboard, scissors, silicone, a template, paint, paint brushes to have them in the class to show them to the students.

Assessment: The attention, motivation and predisposition to the work.

Attention to diversity: There will be a thinking time, each time will have some time to answer to think about the answer of the question and then, actually answering it.
