Session 1: Introduction

Session number 1 is an introductory session for the teaching unit aimed at the students to get familiar with biographies and regular verbs.

Objectives of the session:

  • To listen to Anne Frank's biography.

  • To discuss on what they have heard about Anne Frank's life. 

​

  • To read Anne Frank's biography all together. 

​

  • To talk about biographies and what they are.

​

  • To introduce regular verbs and how they are formed.

​

  • To find all regular verbs in the past. 

​

  • To do prove they have understood how regular verbs are formed through an exercise.

Description of the activities:

Activity 1: Listen to Anne Frank's biography

Listening of Anne Franks biography from the web page Koala Text.

              Class organization: Whole class

​

              Timing:  10 minutes

Activity 2: Discuss about what they have just heard about Anne Frank's life. The teacher will provide a summary of what Frank lived and what is explained in her diary. To help tp this explanation students will be able to see some photos of the important people and symbols of the Anne Frank's story.

              Timing:   10 minutes

 

Activity 3:  Read Anne Frank's biography altogether. With the transcription of the listening, students will read the biography as a class.

              Timing:   5 minutes

Activity 4: A quick introduction to what biographies are.  Discussion guided by the teacher in order to arrive at a conclusion on what these types of texts are focusing, also, in the verb tense used to write them.

              Timing:   15  minutes

Activity 5:  Find all verbs in the biography. With the correction of the exercise, the teacher will help students to see what a verb is and the difference between a regular verb and an irregular verb. 

 

 

             Class organization:  Exercise (Individual), correction (whole class)

 

              Timing:   10 minutes

Activity 4:  Explanation in how to form regular verbs in the past. Explained with a Canva presentation (linked in the material's section) and the whiteboard.

              Timing:   5 minutes

 

DOL:​ I will correctly transform from the infinitive to the past at least 5 regular verbs of the 10 given 

​

Materials

  • Anne Frank's biography from Koala Text (The transcription of the biography HERE)

  • Photos tu ilustrate Anne Frank's biography (see below)

  • A presentation to ilustrate the story (See the full presentation HERE )

  • A list with 10 regular verbs in infinitive form.

Assessment:

 

  1. The attention and interest shown during the session.

  2. The participation given during the discussion segments.

  3. The DOL activity.

 

 

Attention to diversity: This session is just an introduction for the different topics of the teaching unit. The students can interact in the class using their first language if they feel more comfortable and later, the teacher can reformulate what they say in English at the end.
