Session 3 & 4: Let's write a biography

Sessions 3 and4 are aimed for the students to write the biographies of the famous characters they have chosen. 

Objectives of the session:

  • To select the famous character they want to write about.

  • Look for information online from the famous character chosen​​​ 

​

  • Write the biography of a famous character.

Description of the activities:

Activity 1: The teacher will dedicate some minutes in order to explain the task and the development of the session. Also the students should have already selected their famous character but if some group has doubts some time can be given to the students for them to chose a person to write about.

 

 

              Class organization: Work groups

              Timing:   10 minutes

Activity 2 and 3:  The activities that will be now explained do not have a clear schedule. Students can have it easier to find information or may need more time in order to find all the relevant information. For that reason, they can devote as much time as they need from session number 3 and 4 in order to find the information and write the biography.

              Class organization: Whole class

 

              Timing:   50 minutes (Session number 3) 1 hour (Session 4)

Materials

  • The biography template to write in it (To see the template click HERE

  • The biography of a famous character for reference  (To see it click HERE)

​

  • Laptops.

​

Assessment:

 

  1. The attention and interest shown during the session.

  2. The participation inside their groups.

  3. The final biography. The biography will be assessed as a text would be assessed for the competències bàsiques, so, it will be assessed the morphosyntax,  the lexicon, the adequation and the orthography.

 

Ortography: From 0 to 4 mistakes = 3 points, 5 or 6 mistakes = 2 points, 7 or 8 mistakes 1 point, more than 9 = 0 points.

 

Morphosyntax: 3 or 4 mistakes = 3 points, 5 or 6 mistakes = 2 points, 7 or 8 mistakes 1 point, more than 9 = 0 points.

 

Adequation: If the text is adequate and the information is located in the correct places and they have included enough information for each session they will have 2 points. If the text has a lack of information or not all of it is  well organised or placed the students will have 1 point. If the text is not organised at all and it lacks lots of information the students will have a 0 in this part.

 

Lexicon: From 0 to 4 lexicon mistakes = 2 points,  from 5 to 7 mistakes = 1 point, more than 8 mistakes = 0 point.

 

 

Attention to diversity: The groups for the writing process will be made by the teacher previously so they will be heterogeneous. Also, students will be provided with some questions that may be useful. Also, they will be provided with computers in which they can look for translators and dictionaries.
