Number faces

Objectives:

  • To make students control themselves.

  • To make students count to the number the teacher decides.

  • To help the teacher to control the class.

Process:

The process is very simple. The teacher writes 10 or more numbers on the blackboard and draws smiley faces down those numbers. If there are 10 numbers on the blackboard, 5 faces should be drawn at the beginning of the session. If the students are behaving the teacher can draw as many smiley faces as she/he wants until they arrive at 10 or the goal number, but, if the students are misbehaving, she/he can erase smiley faces one by one to warn his or her students that their behaviour is not the best and prevent it to continue.

While doing this activity, the teacher can use this activity to practice numbers and counting. For example, counting how many faces they need to arrive at their goal.

Material:

  • A blackboard/Whiteboard

  • Chock/board markers

The conversation game

Objectives:

  • To create interaction between students.

  • To make them know each other better

Process:

The picture is from Pinterest but the one I used with my students in the language school was a big cardboard with bigger letters, unfortunately, I don’t have it anymore.

Sometimes when we want our students to use the language orally we use the same topics over and over and it can get quite boring. This game is simple, using a dice a student rolls it one time to know which row he or she has to select and rolls it again to know the column, for example, he or she gets a 5 (row 5) and a 3 (column 3), that student looks for the topic he or she has to talk about and after explaining what she wants to his or her classmates he or she can ask another person to also talk about that topic and in that way create a conversation. If not, the board can be used again in order to continue speaking about different topics.

A teacher can create different board depending on the topic, for example, I used to have one about daily life routines and hobbies and one I created for a specific topic we were studying in the class in that case the board was about animals.

Material:

  • Board made of cardboard and markers.

  • A dice.
